IFAS: Security

IFAS security is designed to operate in a multi-user environment. The system provides many security safeguards at the logical, database, and demographic level; centralizes system information; provides an extremely convenient tool for the analyst to create user/job interface dialogue; automatically interfaces systems to users by conducting menu-driven job request dialogue; launches background jobs and activates tasks interactively; and creates a standard structure for interfacing user-given parameters to applications programs.

Security Safeguards

  • Restrict access to operating commands by users.
  • Define job running and database access capabilities.
  • Restrict read, write, and update access at the entry level; i.e., you may allow access to only a designated set of entries (records or rows) in a given data set.
  • Force password to change at user-defined intervals.
  • Assign user access to designated printers with an optional maximum print priority specified for each printer.
  • Define job security to grant user access to only selected menus.
  • Define logging of user-requested functions at the global, user, or job level.
  • Require re-entry of password for periods of inactivity on workstations.

System Management

  • Automatically log audit control information; e.g., debit and credit totals for financial subsystems.
  • Review estimated time to completion prior to job launch.
  • Review centrally located system error codes and corrective advice, screen and report headings, common codes used by all applications systems, user security, database passwords, and JCL.
  • Automatically log on remote systems for distributed printers and software subsystems.
  • Launch jobs/printing on external processors.
  • Set default job priority, printer, copies, and print priority by job.
  • System maintains total CPU time, elapsed time, and pages printed by user and job.

User Interface

  • Manage all job request dialogue automatically.
  • Optionally defer jobs and printed forms or reports for later processing.
  • Validate codes in real-time.
  • Choose to launch a job interactively or in batch mode (security permitting).
  • Complete online HELP facility. All questions asked of the user have associated HELP text.
  • Printed output directed to a variety of devices.

Tools for User / Job Interface Dialogue Creation

  • Create dialogue by defining questions to be asked (prompts), possible responses (menus), response validation checks (edits), and additional descriptive information (online HELP).
  • Easily specify question flow by associating questions with given combinations of possible user responses.
  • User characteristics and security definitions available to all applications software.

Person/Entity System Overview

The Person/Entity System maintains person and entity name and address information in a central database. This database can then be used by all application software needing to access such information. The advantages of centralizing such information are primarily data consistency, accuracy, and enhanced control. All update and extraction software is provided with the system; plus, a powerful interactive PEDB INQUIRY facility is included. Because the client may define desired attributes and associate them with entries in the PEDB, this is a comprehensive database.

Major Features

  • Associate multiple addresses and free form text with each entry.
  • Associate any special codes with entries and then extract from the database using these codes as selection criteria. There is no limit on number of codes associated.
  • Assign users with read, write and/or update access to selected entries in the database using built-in security and control system.
  • Automatically maintain a log of what has been changed, when and by whom. Choose to keep old name and address details in the database after they have been changed (this is useful for billing systems or other systems which need to keep track of changes).
  • Support generic searches on multiple factors with powerful online Person/Entity database INQUIRY facility.
  • Select and print file listings based upon multiple selection criteria.
  • Select and print user-defined address labels based upon multiple selection criteria.
  • Supports codes to track minority businesses.
  • System is easily interfaced to existing software.
