Application Hosting

SunGard Public Sector offers three application hosting options:

• Disaster Recovery
• ASP
• RSP

Disaster Recovery

As a subscriber to the Disaster Recovery service, your site receives consultation from SunGard Public Sector to develop and set up a proven disaster plan. Nearly all of the effort associated with implementing and maintaining a disaster recovery plan is the responsibility of SunGard Public Sector’s experienced recovery staff. The service also includes periodic testing to ensure that the system components work together in the event of a disaster.

If a crisis does occur, and your local system is rendered inoperable, you (and your auditors) can have the peace of mind that you have a simple, practical plan in place with SunGard Public Sector’s Disaster Recovery.

ASP (Application Service Provider)

Some organizations choose to use ASP as an option to the up-front cost and additional technical support requirements that the hardware associated with a new administrative system brings. Under the ASP configuration, the hardware system running IFAS is located and managed at SunGard Public Sector's datacenter in Chico, CA and connected via a firewall-to-firewall secure VPN tunnel to the customer's Local Area Network (LAN). Because the hardware is part of the LAN, end users have full online access to IFAS, just as if the hardware were in the next room.

Under the ASP arrangement, there is no separate expense for hardware, third party software, system management, or maintenance. SunGard Public Sector performs all system backups, database administration, software management, and other standard data center functions. SunGard Public Sector is responsible for the hardware and the communications network for ASP.

RSP (Remote Service Provider)

With the RSP solution, SunGard assumes the responsibility for performing operating system, database, and IFAS administration, allowing your organization's IT staff to focus efforts toward existing infrastructure, network and other applications. RSP is performed remotely using your organization's existing hardware and IFAS system environment.

The value of the RSP solution is that it allows your organization to move ahead with technology, without requiring dedicated staff knowledgeable of the databases and operating systems that a financial system utilizes. RSP is an option for organizations that choose to house hardware at their site, but require IT support on a short or long-term basis.
